Design Guidelines

ActiveSense embraces simplicity while maintaining a distinctive and cohesive brand identity. As a WearOS application, it adheres to the Material 2 Guidelines for WearOS apps, ensuring a user experience that is both familiar and intuitive. However, to strengthen its unique identity, ActiveSense incorporates custom design elements and assets that align with its core values and vision.

Material 3 Support

ActiveSense has not fully implemented Material 3 yet, as the libraries are not feature complete for Wear OS. Currently, we recommend introducing elements of the Material 3 libraries at the developer's discretion. You can check the current status of the Material 3 Wear OS implementation here.

Assets

ActiveSense Square Logo The ActiveSense logo is a key element of the app's identity. It features a stylized lowercase "a," symbolizing simplicity. The sping green "stride" across the logo represents motion and energy, reinforcing the app’s focus on tracking and recognizing physical activity.

Wordmark

The ActiveSense word mark complements the square logo with a refined, typography-driven design. It is versatile and available in both light and dark versions to suit various applications. The defining element of the word mark is the neon-green "stride" underlining the last letter improving recognizability.

In horizontal layouts or broader formats, the word mark serves as an effective alternative to the square logo. Its sleek, modern typeface and subtle integration of the green stride make it a consistent and recognizable representation of the app.

Typography

ActiveSense does not enforce a custom typography system within the app itself, instead relying on the WearOS operating system and the user’s preferred font settings for a familiar experience.

For branded assets, including the word mark and other external branding materials, ActiveSense utilizes Work Sans, a clean and modern typeface from the Google Fonts library. This ensures consistency across all visual communications while maintaining readability and professionalism.

Iconography

ActiveSense largely relies on the Material Icons library, only designing custom icons when necessary. When custom icons are required, they adhere to the visual style of the Material Icons, using simple geometric shapes and clean lines to ensure consistency. Icons maintain uniform weight and size to align with the app's minimalist design philosophy.

By adhering to these design guidelines, ActiveSense balances aesthetics with functionality, ensuring a seamless, user-friendly experience while promoting a unique and energetic brand identity.
